These apple brownies are a delightful twist on traditional brownies, combining tart apples, cinnamon, and toasted pecans for a warm, comforting dessert. They offer a chewy texture with a perfect balance of sweetness, making them ideal for fall baking.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp), peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup (115g) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup (200g) sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 1/2 cups (180g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup (60g) pecans, toasted and chopped

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease an 8×8-inch (20×20 cm) baking pan or line it with parchment paper.
  2. Toast the pecans in a skillet or under the broiler for about 1 minute, then set them aside to cool.
  3. Peel and chop the apples into ½-inch (1.25 cm) pieces. Set them aside.
  4. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy. Add the egg and beat for another minute.
  5. Mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and cinnamon in a separate bowl, then fold it into the wet ingredients.
  6. Fold in the chopped apples and toasted pecans.
  7. Spread the batter evenly in the prepared pan and bake for 30–40 minutes, or until golden on the edges and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  8. Allow the brownies to cool for 15–30 minutes before cutting into squares.

  • If you prefer, substitute the pecans with walnuts or another nut of your choice.
  • Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
